Blood Collection – Serum & Whole Blood

All patient specimens tested at US BioTek Laboratories are collected in the physician's office ordering the test, or draw site of the doctor's choosing. A draw site may charge a draw and/or processing fee.

* For special requirements including storage and shipping, refer to instruction insert in each collection kit.

Test Panels

Serum/Plasma Requirements 2 fully drawn 10 ml sized SST OR Red Top tubes will usually provide about 6-8 ml of serum. If 2 SST OR Red Top tubes are not sufficient to provide the volume required for the panels ordered, a third tube may be needed.

Whole Blood Collection Card Each card has 5 circles. Each circle must be fully saturated with WHOLE BLOOD.

An insufficient sample may result in the inability to complete testing for all panels ordered. Notification of the panels that could not be completed is issued with the partial report.

 

Pediatrics: For a child weighing less than 20kg the maximum amount of blood to be drawn at any one time is suggested to be no more than 10 ml or 1 Red Top tube. Please include priority list for testing with requisition form or draw on separate occasions and store until shipment.

Urine Collection

Test Panels	Urine Requirements 1 First morning mid–stream urine catch before food & drink. Or, first urine catch after longest stretch of sleep.	Collection Method 1 fully saturated Dip ’N Dry urine collection strip is sufficient for the Urinary Metabolic Profile & Environmental Pollutants Profile when ordered together.
